🎬 YouTube’s 3-Minute Shorts: A Comedy of Errors 🎬
Alright, folks, I need a little help here, because this is as much a test as it is an experiment in sanity! So, how are you watching this? Is it a classic long-form video or a YouTube Short? Drop your answers in the comments below, because honestly—I have no idea what YouTube’s algorithm is up to these days! 🤷♂️
Here's the scoop. On October 15, 2024, YouTube told us we could upload 3-minute Shorts! Sounds amazing, right? Well... sort of. Turns out, if you're trying to record a Short from your phone, it’s still capped at 60 seconds! 🕐 Yep, reality check! Try uploading anything longer, and it’s trimmed down faster than your New Year’s resolutions. Even YouTube’s own support page confirms: “Nope, you can't record a 3-minute Short via the app.” And I'm over here like, "Isn't the whole point of Shorts to be quick and mobile-friendly?" 📲
How to Hack the “Long” Short System… Kinda! 🕵️♂️
Now, technically, there is a way to upload these “longer” Shorts, but it’s more complicated than it should be. You have to go through desktop YouTube Studio to upload it. But here’s the kicker: as soon as you do, the Short forgets it’s a Short and has an identity crisis. 😂 It appears as a long-form video in the Studio dashboard, offering you the option to add a thumbnail. A thumbnail! For a Short! 🙃 We all know Shorts don’t actually display thumbnails, so why tease us, YouTube?
And if that’s not enough, YouTube warns, “Your Short may not show up where you expect it to, and views from the Shorts feed might take a while.” So, basically, don’t be alarmed if your “Short” gets tossed around in algorithm limbo. 😬
My 3-Minute Short Conspiracy Theory 🤯
I had this brilliant 3-minute masterpiece ready to go live on October 15. But when I never saw it as a Short in the Studio, I panicked and never published it. Instead, here I am three weeks later, running this test—fingers crossed it even shows up as a Short.
But shoutout to the Awesome Vid Crew, who have been braver than me. They dove right in, posting long Shorts like champs. Sure, they’re showing up as regular videos on the channel, but surprise, surprise: these videos are actually racking up millions of views from the Shorts feed! 😮🎉 So maybe this is a case of "Don’t worry, YouTube’s got you"… or maybe not. Who knows!
Final Verdict? TBD 🕵️♀️
YouTube says it’ll sort things out "eventually," but meanwhile, we’re left guessing if these 3-minute Shorts are actually Shorts or not. The Awesome Vid Crew threw in #shorts in their titles, and while I’m not sure if that made a difference, here’s hoping. 🤞
In the end, what does this all mean? Let’s see if my 2-minute and 59-second Short ends up where it’s supposed to, or if it’s destined to roam the YouTube wilderness like a lost video soul. Stay tuned, people, and hit the comments—this is one experiment we’re all in on together! 😆
